The volunteer service will be coordinated by the Nomad Republic team and the Alter SA (Alternativa Yucateca Integral para el Desarrollo Humano AC/Comprehensive Yucatan Alternative for the Human Development AC), a linked organization that counts with more than 10 years of experience contributing to social development and attacking problems that concern the communities and people in a marginalized state in the entire peninsula of Yucatán.

The goal of the association consists in providing these groups with support service in the matter of human rights, women empowerment, sexual health, healthcare and psychological assistance. The voluntary service activities are carried out following a participatory intervention model through experience-based techniques. Learning is taught in an interactive way through group dynamics, interviews, workshops, role-playing, feedback sessions, talks, group orientation, among others.

The ongoing programs are focused on prevention and detection of HIV/AIDS. Specific activities could go from planning, logistics, calling and execution of sexual health public fairs, where quick HIV tests, workshops about the correct use of contraceptive methods, counseling and pre-counseling about prevention and detection of HIV/AIDS are carried out in public areas of the town. Additionally, time will be spent in the community of Tekom, where Alter Int carries out business venture and women empowerment workshops, just as clubs that have a goal of creating a formative support net through dynamics and games that promote a rewarding cultural exchange between the volunteer and the community.

Previous to the activities there is a comprehensive training about the program’s topic, the regional context, sexual health topics and activities to do. Besides, we will have team inclusion dynamics. The voluntary service will be carried out in the magic town of Valladolid and, depending on the time of the year, in some of the neighboring Mayan communities.
